Think outside the box!

You don’t have to stick to having your ceremony at a conventional “authorised” venue. Why not consider a visit to the register office to take care of the legalities? Maybe at a time when registrars are less busy? Then you can have a beautiful, bespoke, celebrant-led ceremony at a more unusual, more imaginative location, on any day you choose! You would have the freedom to have your ceremony anywhere you wish. A venue that fits with you as a couple, rather than a more traditional, “prescribed” venue.

Why not consider ……. An outdoor wedding.

It may be that social distancing measures will be in place for a while yet, so if you’re planning to get married later this year, it may be safer in an outdoor space, and maybe a larger number of guests will be allowed outdoors. This country abounds in beautiful outdoor locations, many of which are suitable for your wedding ceremony and Worcestershire is no exception. There are lakes and woodlands, hills and riversides and country parks to choose from – though you would need to check with the appropriate authority for permission first – but you may be surprised at how many places are happy to allow your ceremony. One such place is Spetchley Park Gardens, situated just outside Worcester. Home to the Berkeley family for over 400 years, the grade 2 listed mansion is surrounded by acres of ancient parkland and lakes. Although weddings are not allowed in the gardens, they are permitted in almost any area of the parkland, beside one of the lakes or within an area of woodland. The erection of a marquee or tipi is an option and the splendid choice of back drops, the magnificent mansion, and the views of the Worcestershire countryside to the Malvern Hills, would make amazing photographic memories. Why not consider ………Less obvious locations

How about a vineyard? Or a farm? Many of these have excellent wedding facilities and their rural locations offer stunning views and beautiful locations for your ceremony and your photographs.

Airbnb?

There are many great Airbnb properties that not only provide exceptional and sometimes, quirky accommodation where you can spend your wedding night or start your honeymoon, but are set in lovely surroundings, perfect for a small -medium wedding ceremony. Properties in Worcestershire alone range from picturesque cottages with stunning gardens, coach houses, log cabins, lakeside lodges, Igloo huts, Yurts set in lovely woodland and Shepherd’s Huts beside a small lake. airbnb.co.uk How about having your wedding ceremony on the spectacular Malvern Hills and then spending your first night as a married couple in a Glamping Dome with a hot tub?

There is an abundance of country pubs that can easily cater for smaller numbers and a lot have pretty beer gardens and room for a small marquee if that’s something you fancy!

A particular favourite of mine is the Fleece Inn, located in the picturesque village of Bretforton. This is a very pretty, National Trust owned pub dating back to the 15th century. Inside, the pub is divided into small rooms with all the quirkiness its age brings. One of the rooms has a large inglenook fireplace and would be the perfect setting for a wintertime elopement ceremony or intimate wedding.

Outside there is a large well- kept garden with mature fruit trees and features, such as a shepherd’s hut and even a gypsy caravan (which sleeps 2 and maybe an option for your wedding night!) There is plenty of room in the garden for a marquee or tipi, and if something more substantial is what you’re looking for, the pub also has a Medieval Thatched Barn which seats up to 60 people. You may have a particular place that is meaningful to you as a couple, or you might like the idea of a garden wedding, very on trend now.

A smaller ceremony with fewer guests expands your options when looking for a venue. You are able to consider a wider range of alternative, unusual and quirky locations, which will add to the uniqueness of your special day and make it all the more memorable!

You, as a couple are unique, so why not choose a unique place to start your journey together? Let your imagination run wild and see where it takes you!

Introduction

If you have had to postpone your wedding, you may be coming up against problems when trying to rebook for later this year and even for next year. As couples tend to start planning their wedding at least a year in advance, your chosen venue may already be fully booked. Registrars may also not have the capacity to meet the demand to conduct ceremonies at authorised venues especially on weekend dates. So, what can you do?
