Who Am I?
Hi, I’m Lynda and I am an independent celebrant. Some time ago I read an article about a person who became a celebrant so they could conduct their closest friend’s wedding celebration.
After doing more research into the role, I thought “I can do this, this is perfect for me, and what a privilege to be part of such a momentous occasion in someone’s life!”
I’m a Yorkshire lass married to a Lancashire lad.
I have a son, a daughter, a grandson and a granddaughter and a dog.
I am an ex pub landlady and a retired nurse
What do I love?
Comedy, particularly Victoria Wood and Bill Bailey. Love going to stand-up at our local theatres.
Theatre – Very much in favour of supporting our local theatres which is why I volunteer as a steward and help on the bar at our theatres
Singing: I’m a member of a choir. We’re not very good but we enjoy ourselves, we do have a great laugh.
Dancing: I’ve always loved to dance and learnt Ceroc a few years ago, which I loved and went on weekenders a couple of times. But I will get up on a dancefloor at any opportunity, even if I’m the only one on the floor if it’s a tune I particularly like!
Interior design: I’m always changing things in my house. I would say this is my main hobby as I spend so much time doing it! Luckily, my son’s a painter and decorator and my husband’s good at DIY so that helps!
Creative Writing: I love belonging to a writing group, there are a lot of very talented people out there.
BBC Sounds: I love the radio. Dramas, comedy, podcasts. Brilliant!
Reading: I’ve always been an avid reader. When I was a child I used to read under the bedclothes with the lamp off my Dad’s bike, when I should have been asleep.
I’m also a bit of an armchair activist, I belong to various campaign groups – 38 Degrees, Avaaz, Friends of the Earth, Change.org, to name a few.
Living where I live: there is always something going on at/by the racecourse. Its great for my daily exercise (when its not under water – as it is at the moment). Great for walking Rufus, we meet lots of nice people. The river is lovely to walk by and it’s such a lovely place to watch the seasons change. We also get lovely sunsets. It’s the countryside but in the middle of town!
Travel: everyone likes to visit other places, don’t they? I like city breaks, cruising and having lovely trips in our “Classic” – (very old) motorhome. We can go anywhere and at the last minute, and it’s really good fun and Rufus loves it too!
